User Onboarding
Objective
Create a first time user experience that collects important social determinants of health information.
Problem
Many users skip the onboarding process. It's often overly complicated or boring. In this instance, it was imperative that I design an experience to capture as many responses as possible during the first session. Without this information, it was not possible to build out personalized health actions and recommendations--effectively making it very difficult to actually help people.
Approach
Utilizing my background in game design and illustration, I developed a gamified user experience. Instead of a boring survey, it is a health journey and the user takes on the role of a hiker avatar. As the user answers each question, the hiker avatar moves along a trail and begins to climb a mountain towards a giant trophy, which symbolizes completing the assessment. This experience significantly increased our onboarding completion rate and led to us helping more people improve their health.
